For Teachers-Securing a Sub

The sub email addresses on the TCS private site have been adjusted so that you can copy them all and paste to an email now.  The web site is continuously updated, so you should always go to it now when you need to call or email a request for a sub.  I will no longer be able to send you an email list and you should delete the email I sent out last week with a Sub Email List attached.

Go to the TCS web page and sign in.

·         *Click on the Private Site tab and the link to sub information is under Frequently Used Resources.
·         *Click on http://bit.ly/TCSsubstitutes  and in Column J you can left click and drag your cursor down to highlight the email Column J, then right click  and choose Copy and then Allow Access.
·         *On your open New Email, click To:  and choose BCC (so that the emails will remain private) and right click and paste.  All the emails for approved subs will appear in BCC.
·         *On the Subject line “Need Sub for 8/27”.
·         *Please BCC respond to all subs when your sub has been secured. “Sub secured-8/27, Thanks.”

After you have done this once, my wordy explanation above will make sense!

One of the best things about the sub list online (other than that it is Always updated) is you can access the link from any computer. So, if you left your laptop at school, your home computer can help you locate the sub info.  Please send an email request to the subs and ask your team teacher for assistance before you email the office for help.

Fellowship Opportunities for Teachers

Last spring through my affiliation with iCivics,  I had the opportunity to speak with Carina Wong, Gates Foundation Education Strategy Leader  (  http://www.gatesfoundation.org/What-We-Do/US-Program/College-Ready-Education/Strategy-Leadership/Carina-Wong ).

She sent me a great resource from the Gates Foundation called “What are you waiting for? Teacher fellowship opportunities.”   It is a one of kind resource listing a variety of opportunities for teachers.
2 years ago, Connie Hambey and Karon Decker won a Fund for Teachers grant to travel to Thailand and study elephants.  I think this would be an awesome thing to share with our faculty.

Many of these deadlines for applications are spread throughout the year.  I have a paper copy if someone needs one, but here is a digital copy we can share with the district.  http://collegeready.gatesfoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/What-Are-You-Waiting-For.pdf

Club Day Information

Good afternoon!  Club Day selection forms are coming home today, 8/24.  Please do the following in order to help your student make his/her Club Day choices:

  • Read over the list of clubs with your child and help him/her choose his/her top 4 club choices.
  • Write his/her top 4 choices on the back of the handout.
  • Log on to Mrs. Blake’s blog (http://mrsblakescounselingcorner.blogspot.com/) and enter them in online.
  • Return the form to school on or before Thursday, 8/27.

If your child’s form gets lost as it travels from school to home, you can print another one by visiting Mrs. Blake’s website (http://goo.gl/IB2HpJ).  For an overview of Club Day, please visit Mrs. Blake’s blog http://mrsblakescounselingcorner.blogspot.com/.  If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail Mrs. Blake at lauren.blake@trussvillecityschools.com.
