Testing Information for Parents

Parents,

As you know, 3rd through 5th grade students at Paine Elementary will be engaged in ACT Aspire testing beginning next week.  Our testing window is April 25-May 5, however, students will only test 3 days during this testing window.  Your child’s teacher will send you the specific testing dates and times for your child’s class if she hasn’t done so already.  Make up testing will take place on Wednesday, May 4, in the afternoon, and Thursday, May 5.

One way you can help your child prepare for the ACT Aspire is to have them practice using the tools for the upcoming tests via this link: http://actaspire.pearson.com/exemplars.html.  Instructions for logging on to each specific practice test are listed on the site.  Our students have learned how to use these tools during their computer lab specials time with Mrs. Long, but we highly recommend doing this at home at least once before the test.

Please take note of the Digital Device Policy from the State of Alabama that applies to standardized testing.

  • The possession of a digital device (including but not limited to cell phones, MP3 players, cameras, or other telecommunication devices capable of capturing or relaying information) is strictly prohibited during the administration of a secure test.  If a student is observed in possession of a digital device during the administration of a secure test then the device will be confiscated.
  • If a student is observed using a digital device during the administration of a secure test, testing for the student will cease, the device will be confiscated and is subject to search, the student will be dismissed from testing, and the student’s test will be invalidated.

We encourage our students not to bring digital devices to school during the week of testing, but we also understand that many of our students rely on these devices to read books and for communicating with parents before or after school hours.  If your child needs to bring a digital device to school, they must turn the device in to their teacher before testing each day.  The teacher will place the device in a bin and it will be removed from the classroom during testing.  The device will be kept in a secure place and will be returned to the student after testing concludes for the day.  If the device is in the classroom during testing, it will be confiscated.  Please discuss this state policy with your children and have them leave all digital devices at home during testing if possible.

We are looking forward to a great week of testing.  If you have any questions, please let us know.

Sincerely,

Ring Road Closure

Due to the Paine Primary Boosterthon and Easter Egg Hunt tomorrow, the ring road (carline) will be closed from 8:15am until 2:30pm, in order to ensure the safety of the students and teachers. While this should not affect teachers and staff members on the Intermediate campus, you may want to advise your students and their parents as the closure will affect the afternoon carline. Additionally, Officer Payne asked that no one parks on the yellow curb in front of the Primary campus because the shuttle buses will be transporting parents between Faith and the school. As always, your cooperation is appreciated and I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Paine Elementary (3-5) Annual Food Drive

Emergency Drills Today

Paine Elementary (3-5) Parents:

Paine Elementary School engaged in the following two emergency preparedness drills today: Severe Weather Drill and Intruder Drill. We started at approximately 8:30 a.m. and were finished with both drills by 9:15 a.m. Teachers have reviewed  procedures and steps students should take for the various drills since the beginning of the school year.

The Intruder Drill was a collaborative effort between our School Resource Officers and the administration here at Paine. All students and teachers immediately housed themselves for a temporary period of time in their designated safe place.

Our severe weather drill is more of a routine drill that students participate in on a monthly basis. As expected, all students and staff immediately positioned themselves for a temporary period of time in their designated safe place.

We appreciate the students outstanding behavior and cooperation. All drills today were a success and we commend everyone involved!
