Flex
Time
Flex time is open on
Mondays from 8:45am-1:30 pm and Tuesday-Friday from 8:45am-2:30pm.
Flex time begins Monday, August 18. Because we are open all day for flex time,
there shouldn’t be more than 3 students from a particular class sent at
the same time. Please do not send students before 8:45. When students come to
the library for their specials, they should not come for flex time on that same
day unless it has been approved by the teacher with a written note. I understand there are some exceptions (they
chose a book too low or too high), so just send a note. We want students to get
ample reading materials and learn to make appropriate reading selections, and
we certainly don’t want teachers to lose precious instruction time because
students are constantly in and out of the library. Students should only come to
flex time once a day unless authorized by the teacher. If a student needs to come more than once to flex
time, again, just please send us a note and we will be glad to help them. We encourage students to check out two books
when they visit. This should decrease
lost instruction time from the classroom. If a student chooses to only check
out one book at a particular visit, they shouldn’t return for checkout until
their scheduled library specials time. If students check out two books and
finish them both before their scheduled library day, they are more than welcome
to come for flex time in between.

Library
Schedule
Students will remain in the library the entire
scheduled time. We will not split our
time with keyboarding this year. Upon arrival, please make sure to wait outside
the library door with your class and have them go ahead and pull out date due
cards. I will collect those as they enter so please wait outside the library
doors. You can pick them up outside the exit doors of the library. Classes need to be escorted back to their room
by the teacher.
Library
Rewards
Classes have the opportunity to earn a letter
each time they come to specials. When they earn four letters, spelling out the
word READ, they will receive a special reward the next time they come for
specials. There are charts posted near the exit doors of the library if you
want to track your class’s progress.
No
Fine Challenge
Beginning second trimester for fourth and fifth
grade classes and in January for third grade classes, the classes with no fines
or lost books at the end of the trimesters will receive three free books for
their teacher’s classroom library. This
means that at the end of the trimester students owing fines or lost book fees
have them paid in full.
AR/STAR
Rosters for the most part should be completed by
now. Please let me know if you need a
student added or deleted to or from your roster. Test deletions are handled by Kelly McGough.
Mini-Computer
Lab
We have ten computers in the library that can be
used by responsible students for testing or research purposes. Please email me ahead of time to so I can
make sure there aren’t any scheduling conflicts with other teachers or
students.
Millionaire
Club
Students that reach one million words will be
recognized at grade level assemblies.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year! Please let me know if I can assist you in any
way.
Thanks,
Christi
